Your dance. Your city. Photographed differently.
Dance in the City
A limited portrait series for dancers who want photographs that feel editorial, cinematic, and unmistakably them.
The series
Not a photoshoot. A portrait.
You didn't spend years learning your craft just to have the same dance photos as everyone else. Your technique deserves more than a studio wall.
Dance in the City takes your movement outside the expected and places it into the architecture, streets, textures, light and atmosphere of the Netherlands. The city becomes part of the photograph. And you become the story.
Every frame is composed like a magazine spread. Your movement is the story.
Dramatic light, urban texture, and a lens that treats dance as art.
Only a handful of sessions per city, per season. This is intentional.
Where we shoot
Three cities. Infinite frames.
Amsterdam
Canal reflections, golden bridges, and streets that hold centuries of stories.
Utrecht
Cathedral shadows, cobblestone alleys, and a city that moves at its own rhythm.
Amersfoort
Medieval walls, quiet waterways, and light that arrives like a secret.
More of Whitney's work
A glimpse.
The photographer
I photograph dancers the way cities hold them — with tension, grace, and a little wildness.
I'm Whitney Collins, a portrait photographer based in the Netherlands. My work lives at the intersection of movement and place — where a dancer's body becomes part of the architecture, the light, the mood of a city street.
Dance in the City grew out of a simple belief: that dancers deserve images as expressive and alive as their art. Not studio shots. Not posed portraits. Something that feels like a moment caught mid-breath.
The approach
Every session is a collaboration.
I don't direct you into poses. I give you space to move, to feel the location, to be yourself — and I follow. The best images come when you forget the camera is there. My job is to make that happen.
Sessions are built around how you move, not how you stand. We explore the space together.
The city isn't a backdrop. It's a collaborator — its textures, light, and energy shape every frame.
Images are edited with a film-inspired palette: rich shadows, warm highlights, and a timeless quality.
